From: Cephus Subject: Why Dole ? Date: Tue, 15 Oct 1996 20:32:57 -0500 Because he will sign the Republican ban on Partial Birth Abortion. Liberal Bill Clinton vetoed this bill. Proceedure detailed below and list of Senators that upheld Clinton's veto. Partial-Birth Abortions: Let the Truth Be Told The legislative battle continues over whether to ban partial-birth abortions. Partial-birth abortions are those in which preborn children, usually between 20 weeks and the end of pregnancy (after viability) are manipulated within the womb to be vaginally delivered feet-first (a breech delivery) until the infant's entire body, except for the head, is exposed. Then, while the child is still alive and kicking, according to the Washington Post, the abortionist crushes the head with forceps or stabs the baby in the back of the head with surgical scissors before suctioning the brain out and completing the delivery of the now-dead baby. According to the sworn Congressional testimony of Dr. Robert White, Director of the Division of Neurosurgery and Brain Research at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, "Without doubt, this is a dreadfully painful experience for any infant subjected to such a surgical procedure." What the nurse saw: "The doctor delivered the baby's body and arms, everything but his little head. The baby's body was moving. His little fingers were clasping together. He was kicking his feet. The doctor took a pair of scissors and inserted them into the back of the baby's head, and the baby's arms jerked out in a flinch, a startle reaction, like a baby does when he thinks he might fall. Then the doctor opened the scissors up. Then he stuck the high-powered suction tube into the hole and sucked the baby's brains out.... "My life and my views about abortion were changed forever." --Brenda Pratt Shafer, RN, who testified in Congress that she was "pro-choice" until she was assigned to work at an Ohio abortion center and participate in partial-birth abortions, even those done in the last trimester on "healthy women with healthy babies." Congress passed a law to ban partial-birth abortions except to save the mother's life. On April 10, 1996, President Bill Clinton vetoed the bill, singlehandedly continuing the legal practice of partial- birth abortions for any reason, because he viewed the law, in the words of his spokesman Mike McCurry, as "an erosion of a woman's right to choose." On September 19, the U.S. House of Representatives successfully voted to override the veto. But the following week when the matter went to the Senate, although 57 of the 98 senators voting favored the ban, this margin was insufficient to meet the Constitutional requirement that two-thirds of each house of Congress vote to override a presidential veto. Therefore, partial-birth abortions remain unrestricted in the United States today. In Pennsylvania, if an abortionist who spent his day subjecting human babies to the legal torture of partial-birth abortions went home and did the same thing to his neighbor's dog, he would be fined $5,000 and sent to prison for two years. Myths used to defend the indefensible Falsehood: Partial-birth abortions are extremely rare, and possibly not done more than 600 times per year. Reality: Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop revealed that one center in New Jersey alone does 1,500 per year. Therefore, the national total would have to be considerably larger than what has been claimed. James McMahon, the abortionist who pioneered the method, said in a paper from the National Abortion Federation that he had done "more than 2,000" partial- birth abortions. Martin Haskell said in a 1992 paper that he had done "over 700," and his wife was quoted in an Ohio newspaper saying he does "less than 200" per year. Falsehood: The child feels no pain because of anesthesia administered to the mother. Reality: Many physicians, including Dr. Norig Ellison, president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, have revealed that this is impossible, because to dull the pain in the unborn child, anesthesia would have to be given in a dosage high enough to kill the mother. They have further said that this myth threatens the health of pregnant women who want their children by instilling fear in them of the anesthesia that they might need for life-saving procedures. Falsehood: These abortions are only done to protect the mothers' health or when the unborn child is severely deformed. Reality: Doctors, including former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, have said there are no circumstances under which partial-birth abortions could be necessary to protect the mother's health or future fertility. Furthermore, partial-birth abortionist Martin Haskell said 80% of them are "purely elective" (healthy mothers with healthy babies) with only 20% for medical reasons, the most common of which being "depression." Senate upholds Clintons ban on Infanticide! The 57-41 roll call by which the Senate voted to sustain President Clinton's veto of a bill banning partial birth abortions. A two-thirds majority is needed to override. On this vote, a "yes" vote was a vote to override the president's veto and a "no" vote was a vote to sustain Clintons' Veto and an endorsement of Infanticide. *This proceedure involves delivering an eight month old baby boy or girl except for the head. Then the doctor inserts a vacumn tube into the back of the baby's neck and sucks the baby's brains out. Killing the infant. Then the dead babies are robbed of thier vital organs for research. Then what is left is thrown away like trash. Horrible proceedure and Clinton supports it! The following senators also support it. America can not tolerate this kind of immoral "leadership" and expect to continue as a strong nation. Please vote against Bill Clinton and the following Senators on Nov. 5, 1996. Bob Dole already has stated that he will sign the ban on this horrible proceedure when elected President.
